New AFL Rules for 2019

The AFL Commission has approved a range of significant rule changes ahead of season 2019.

These included changes to the kick-in from behind (which is now a run-in!), removal of ‘hands in the back’ (yay! – AFL following the VAFA lead!) and the controversial 6 – 6 – 6 starting positions.

There are also changes to the ruck nomination rule, and ‘prior’ not applying to a ruckman taking the ball out of the ruck.

You can read about all of the AFL changes here, or watch them in a video here.

We’re sure the VAFA Rule Makers will have a busy off-season ahead deciding how they want this to be applied!

All the more reason to get to as many pre-season training sessions as we can leading into next year!
